SUMMARY:Guest Speaker - Prof Andrew Dempster (ACSER UNSW)
LOCATION:Green Point Observatory
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Centre for Space Engineering ResearchACSER was founded in 20
10 and is currently operating two satellites in orbit. Professor Andrew Dem
pster will discuss the current activities of the centre, from cubesats to o
ff-earth mining, and framing the space debate in Australia.\n \nProf Andrew
Dempsteris Director of the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Researc
h (ACSER) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at
the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He has a BE and MEngSc from UNSW
and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in efficient circuits for signa
l processing arithmetic. He was system engineer and project manager for the
first GPS receiver developed in Australia in the late 80s and has been inv
olved in satellite navigation ever since. His current research interests ar
e in satellite navigation receiver design and signal processing, areas wher
e he has six patents, and new location technologies. He is leading the deve
lopment of space engineering research at ACSER.\n
