CATEGORIES:Guest Speaker Night
CREATED:20211030T151554
SUMMARY:Guest Speaker - Dr Kathryn Grasha - ANU
LOCATION:: Zoom Meeting - members will be invited
DESCRIPTION:The nature of star formation physics in the ISMMy talk will broadly revolve
around using the largest ground- and space-based observatories to provide
insight at unprecedented details into the detailed nature of the star forma
tion physics in the resolved interstellar medium in nearby galaxies.\nDr Ka
thryn GrashaI attended the University of Colorado for my undergraduate degr
ee and earned my PhD from the University of Massachusetts. I was awarded a
Laureate Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Australian National University.  In
2021, I won both an ASTRO 3D Fellowship and an Australian Research Council
DECRA (Discovery Early Career Research Award) Fellowship, both at the ANU.
My expertise touches on nearly all aspects of the star formation cycle, fr
om the ultraviolet all the way to the radio, and spans nearly the entire li
fetime of the Universe, covering both local galaxies and galaxies as far ba
ck as 11 billion years. My passion does lie in local, resolve star formatio
n studies where we have the ability to resolve individual stars and study t
heir connection with their immediate surrounding gaseous environment.\n
